Ecobank opens Nyali and AU branch

Ecobank Kenya has opened a new branch in Nyali, Mombasa and an Express branch at the AU offices in Nairobi, as it seeks to deepen its presence countrywide. This brings to 25 the number of branches the bank has so far opened in addition to the Express branch since it launched operations in Kenya in 2008.

The first ever Express branch at the African Union offices is expected to serve mainly the African Union and its employees.According to Ecobank Kenya Managing Director, Anthony Okpanachi, the latest addition to its fast-growing branch network will strengthen the lender’s presence in the coastal region where it boasts three branches, two in Mombasa and one in Malindi. 

 

Tourism and trade form the economic mainstay of Mombasa County. Nyali area is home to some of the best tourist facilities in the country and is a growing financial, real estate and retail hub in the coastal region. “Nyali is quickly becoming a busy area and we are seeing increased demand for financial services as businesses set up shop in the area,” added Okpanachi.

He further added that with the anticipated boom in trade and investment under the devolved system of government, Ecobank was firmly positioning itself to tap into the emerging opportunities from a devolved government at the local level.

“We expect that as Kenyans begin to reap the benefits of devolution, they will require financial services and that is why we are keen on growing our presence across the country,” explained Okpanachi.

Besides expansion, Mr Okpanachi said Ecobank is also increasing access to financial services by extending its banking hours. The bank has broken away from the conventional working days and its Kisii, Eldoret, Valley Arcade and Kisumu United Mall branches will be open also on Sundays from 9 am to 2 pm.    

Kisii, Eldoret, Kisumu United Mall and all other branches will now be open from 8:30 am to 5 pm on weekdays, save for Ecobank Towers and Valley Arcade which operate until 6 pm.     

While all its branches will operate up to 2 pm on Saturday, Kisumu United Mall branch will be open longer up to 7 pm. Mr Okpanachi said the move would not only give their customers access to banking services for longer hours, but also give Ecobank an edge over other players in the financial services sector.
